Little Pony Motricity

Arley started in the Little Pony Motricity Program in September 2020. At only three years old Arley has shown great confidence and courage in the activities each week. Arley is shy, but that does not stop her from making friends with her peers and the ponies, and her huge smile is extremely contagious! Arley enjoys spending time in the barn brushing her best pony friend, Swancy. The bond between a little girl and her pony is always a special sight. Arley says that one day she wants to "ride a big horse all on my own" and is excited to keep playing new games and learning with Swancy in the meantime.

~ Volunteer Spotlight ~
Meet Kim Hansen

Kim is a married mother of three. Kim is a very "take action" type of parent, volunteering in all her children's sports from football and volleyball to volunteering here at PARDS!

Kim started volunteering last year, after her daughter Sarah begged for riding lessons. Kim has always had a passion for animals, but did not have much experience around horses. She took this as an opportunity to learn and grow alongside her daughter Sarah, as well as volunteer in lessons and in the barn. Kim is always willing to step in to help even if she has not done it before and takes it as an opportunity to learn something new .

Kim assists in therapeutic lessons, Little Pony Motricity and in the day to day activities of the barn. Kim and Sarah are a mother daughter duo and when it comes to bringing horses in and out and preparing them for lessons, our instructors can always rely on them. Very true to her take action personality, Kim has always been eager, willing and dedicated to learning and expanding her knowledge. Kim is such a positive energy and she brings out the best in our riders, horses, staff and other volunteers.

Kim, like all our volunteers, is very valued here at PARDS!
~ Community Champions ~
Double J Equine has partnered with Peace Area Riding for the Disabled Society to get the amazing therapy horses at PARDS new blankets/fly and rain sheets and they are sponsoring a portion of each blanket bought through them for one of PARDS horses.

Jill Jardie of Double J Equine shared on her FB page, "These therapeutic horses deserve to be spoiled! They are still needing a few more blankets so we are reaching out."

To date, the following people have generously contributed to the Blankets for Horses campaign.
Thank you! The blankets warm the bodies and your support warms our hearts.

Horse of the Year
Ace has been a PARDS Equine team member working in the program since 2016. Ace is an 18 year old quarter horse and was kindly donated by Daylce Sather McNabb.

Ace is a nice solid quarter horse with three even gaits, the perfect amount of belly swing to mimic the human walk and a great height for side walkers to comfortably support their riders. He is sweet, has exceptional ground manners and kind eyes; all qualities required to make it onto the team. But he was nervous when he first arrived at PARDS....

To be honest in the beginning we were not entirely sure Ace was going to be a good fit in the program, but there was something special about him, so we decided to give him some extra time.

Fast forward to today and Ace has won over the hearts of so many riders, volunteers and staff. He’s our go to guy for everyone from riders with leaders and side-walkers, to beginner independent riders, to the more advanced looking to really challenge their riding abilities or taking part in the Para Equestrian Video Competitions series.

He takes care of all his riders that he carries in the arena or on the trails. He plants those hooves and doesn’t budge while riders take the time they need to mount and dismount. He’ll walk slow and steady while his rider warms up, stretching their muscles and then march on gently, moving to engage the riders hips to the utmost to build overall strength. His trot will bounce the younger rider around for fun and joy and challenge others to learn rhythm, balance and leg strength. His canter, well... just remember heels down, half halt and hang on!

Ace has more then earned the PARDS Horse of the Year award!
~ Many Thanks! ~
Thank you so much to Doug Balcome for cleaning, sealing and polishing the mezzanine floor and sprucing up the stairwells here at PARDS. We can't thank you enough for giving us your time and
to Home Depot for a $300 gift card towards supplies.

Thanks to the generous support of the County of Grande Prairie along with the many families and businesses that contributed to the Family Fund Drive, this space serves as a viewing area for the friends and family of our riders and is fully accessible now that we have our lift installed thanks to the Government of Canada Accessibility Grant and Canadian Tire Jumpstart.
It also serves as a space for PARDS to host smaller events and gatherings and is even available for rental by outside groups, give us a call for details and pricing.
~ Many Thanks! ~
